The Heath Quartet is one of the most exciting British chamber ensembles to appear in recent years. They have been selected for the Wigmore Hall’s Emerging Talent Scheme, with plans for the 2017/18 season including a cycle of Jörg Widmann’s string quartets. The programme for this recital covers a range of genres that represent the different styles of the Classical, twentieth century and Romantic Periods. Haydn’s Op 76 Quartets were composed while the composer was in residence with Prince Esterházy; the Tippett Quartets were inspired by the need to turn over an old 78rpm record, often in musically strategic places, and Mendelssohn’s work was written in homage to his sister, Fanny.
